Writerly Wednesday #12

Hello, and welcome to another week of Writerly Wednesday.  This is the meme where I discuss all things writerly related, and was started by my good friend, Erin Danzer.

Some of you are probably wondering where I’ve been. Well, I’ve been around, just super busy with well life.  But I am here today to update you on some of my publishing ventures.

Regarding The World Among Us: I finally received approval from my attorney stating that I can sign the contract with Hydra Publications.  They are a fairly new small press publisher, but they already have a lot of titles out.  I have been very impressed with what I’ve seen so far, and I am excited to be working with Frank and the team. Not to mention, some of my fellow Otherworld authors have also moved there, so it’s like old times :).

It’s still so surreal to me that I am no longer with Otheroworld, but it was a choice that had to be made.  I had to think about my future as an author, and my future right now is with Hydra Publications.

I would also like to point you all in the direction of another new/old blog of mine on Literary Lunes Publications.  It is ready and waiting for followers.  I moved it from blogger to wordpress/bluehost and I couldn’t be happier.  I am still tinkering with it, but the blog is ready and it is about 95% done :).  So please hop on over to www.literarylunespublications.com and give it a follow.

I’ll have some wedding updates for you guys soon in another post 🙂

Writerly Wednesday #11: From sad to WOOHOO!

So, as you all know, my former publisher, Otherworld Publications, is closing on December 31 of this year. Last week, I was absolutely devistated by the news, and have since then made a very important choice. I was given the option to stay with OWP until the end of the year, or opt out now.  It was difficult because I like and respect Lynn, but I asked myself the important question; will it pay off in the long run?

After thinking about it myself, discussing it with my publicist, and my family and friends, I realized the answer is no, it won’t pay off. I wasn’t making a lot of money from them to begin with.  So, I opted to get out at the end of the month. The 25th of June is my last day with OWP.

HOWEVER, I do have some really good news.  I have been speaking with Frank over at Hydra Publications, who is also located in Kentucky and not too far from Lynn.  I have done some extensive research on him and his company, and have found all good things.  Yes, Hydra Publications is another young, and fairly new company, but they have a much bigger following than OWP, and after speaking to their authors, I am overall very impressed with them.

I asked Frank for a sample contract and looked it over.  He sent it to me right away, and at a first glance, I don’t see anything legally wrong with it. Granted, I am not an attorney or paralegal, but it seems legit to me so far. I do plan to have one of my attorney friends take a look at it just to be safe before I sign my life away hehe.

So, Frank and I exchanged a few more emails.  He’s definitely pro-author, and is very easy to work with. He seems to know what he’s doing business-wise, and we just clicked. Before I knew it, I was telling him that I would send him Prince of Darkness as well as my other titles.  He then proceeded to ask me if I wanted him to send me a filled out contract with my name, address etc. I told him YES to send it over 🙂

I haven’t received it yet, but I am sure I will very, very soon!

And when I do, you guys will be the first to hear about it!

HOORAY!

Writerly Wednesday #10: A very sad day in publishing

Welcome to another week in Writerly Wednesday.  Unfortunately, today is a very sad day in the publishing world.  I received an email this afternoon from my publisher, Lynn from Otherworld.  The letter said that Otherworld Publications will be closing as of December 31 this year.  I, and all of her other authors are deeply saddened by this because Lynn is absolutely AWESOME!

So, what does this mean for my titles? Well, it means that as of June 25, they will be taken off the market.  However, this won’t be such a bad thing.  Why? Because it will give me the time that I need to re-vamp all my current titles and edit them.  Also, I may already have someone else who I think is interested in re-publishing them.  I have a contact over at Hydra Publications that I’ve “known” for quite a while.  Frank is wonderful, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about him. In fact, he was the first person I emailed when I heard that OWP was going out of business.  He was just as shocked as I was about it.  I found out that not only is he one of the co-owners of Hydra Publications, but he also owns a used book store down in Indiana, and carries all of OWP’s titles so he already has access to my novel.

When I emailed Frank, he told me that he would be honored to re-publish my books. So, they may not be out of print for a long time. No, I haven’t been offered a contract yet, but between my connection with Hydra Publications, and the awesome recommendation that Lynn gave on my behalf, I’m hoping to be in 🙂

Otherworld wasn’t just my publisher…we were like a family, and I hope that the authors and I will continue to stay that way.

Writerly Wednesday #9: NEW BOOK RELEASE! It’s all about charity today!

Hello everyone, and welcome to another Writerly Wednesday, a meme hosted by my “twin”, Erin Danzer.  This is the meme where I discuss all things writerly related.

This week, I am VERY excited to announce the release of the charity anthology that I have been putting together for over a year!  Yes, today is release day for Writings From the Heart: Stories and Poetry From Around the World.  30 short stories and poems make up this unique anthology. Authors and poets from around the world joined together for one cause; to raise  awareness of congenital heart disease in children. All proceeds from this collection will go to the  Adult Congenital Heart Program in the Pediatric Cardiology unit at the Cohen  Children’s Medical Center of NY for education and research in this area.

I chose this charity, because I personally was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect, and am a part of this new program.  The purpose of this program, is to help transition children in the pediatric part, into the adult congenital heart program.  Where I live, it is very difficult to find an adult cardiologist who truly understands the world of pediatric cardiology.  That’s where Dr. Scott Pilgrim, my cardiologist and the coordinator of the program comes in.  He takes the time to explain to the kids and their families the next steps into adult cardiology.  I’ve only met him a few times, but have been very impressed with his knowledge and compassion.

All proceeds made from this collection of stories and poems, will go towards research and education for this program.

I am currently working on getting into all sales channels, but it will take a few days to complete the process.  However, you can purchase the anthology in paperback and in ebook through createspace and smashwords.  Don’t worry, you WILL be able to purchase ebooks directly through barnes and noble and amazon kindle over the next 48 hours.  I will post those links when they become available 🙂

Here are the links:

Writerly Wednesday #7

Welcome to another week of Writerly Wednesday, a meme that was started by the lovely Erin Danzer.  IN this meme, I talk about all things related to writing.

As most of you know, I run a magazine called Literary Lunes.  It’s been around for about a year and a half now, and I’ve started publishing the magazine in paperback.  I was using Lulu to do so, but I found out yesterday that they never published the paperbacks!  WTF? I was wondering why I wasn’t making any sales off of it.  Sighs.  Everything had been saved as a draft, and they never notified me! So now I had to take everything down from them, and am in the process of re-publishing through createspace. It’s such a waste of time, but at least I now know that it wasn’t because of something I did per say…it was Lulu not telling me I needed to make changes or that they couldn’t convert it to a pdf.  It’s so frustraiting!

Speaking of Literary Lunes, you guys should hop on over to the newly rennovated website and check out all of the changes and updates I made over the weekend. I still have a lot of work to do, but it is getting there! I commissioned Dafeenah over at Indie Designz for a new banner and I cannot wait to see what she comes up with!  For those of you who don’t know this, but she designed the banner and buttons for two other of my websites. You can find samples of her awesomeness here and here.  To view the newly updated Literary Lunes website, please go to www.literarylunes.com

I am currently organizing a blog tour for the Writings From the Heart anthology that I am releasing on June 6. I still have plenty of spaces available, so if you would like to hop on the tour please let me know!

Writerly Wednesday #4

Wow, I haven’t blogged since March 25th? Shame on me!  Let’s see, what has been going on in writingland lately.

Well, I have a new banner on the The World Among Us website. Head on over and check it out and let me know what you think, will you? www.theworldamongussaga.com The site is still a work in progress, but it will tell you everything you need to know about my books from where to buy them to all the mythology.

I have also done a bit of tinkering with www.bethannmasarik.com.  I ordered a new banner for the website, which I should have in a few days.  I plan to do some more work on it this weekend now that I have some time coming to me. I am determined to get my website totally done, but, it is hard to do when you are only one person working on it, you know?  I run 4 websites, if you count this blog.  That’s A LOT for one person to manage.

Let’s see, what else can I report?  Oh, yeah!  I wrote another 1,000 words in Stormy Nights (book #2 in The World Among Us) this week.

It’s been pretty quiet around here lately in writingland to be honest. I will have a few guest posts up on www.literarylunespublications.com over the next week or so, so please keep an eye out on that.  Ummm….that’s all for now that I can think of.  I’ll be working on my websites this weekend, so I’ll have more updates for you lovely people.

I am also working on setting up a newsletter sign up form, so please keep your eyes out for that as well!

Writerly Wednesday #3

Writerly Wednesday, is a meme that was started by my good friend, Erin Danzer.  It is a meme where I update you all on the things going  on with me in Writing-land.  For more information on Writerly Wednesday, please visit Erin’s blog at http://www.erindanzer.blogspot.com.

This week, in writing-land, seems to be a fairly decently busy week. I am aiming to get the March/April issue of Literary Lunes Magazine up over the next couple of days.  It’s taking me longer than I want it to to get it done.  I am also putting together a team of book reviewers for it, and have received a great response of inquiries.  They will start reviewing in the May/June issue.  I will also be doing some more work on both websites (the magazine & publishing house).

In other news, my muse has finally returned to me after abandoning me for a month and a half.  I can now FINALLY continue to write in Stormy Nights, the sequel of Prince of Darkness.  I missed writing so much, and she came back just in time too. I was starting to become depressed again.  For those who don’t know, when I go for too long without writing (and I mean fiction writing, not blog writing), I get a little depressed.  It’s my outlet, and when I don’t write, it’s like part of me is missing.  I know I probably sound crazy, but, that’s just how I am.

Thursday, is Dusty Books Thursday #2. I missed last week due to forgetfulness. Hey, I’m human…it happens lol.  This week’s feature is another one of Amelia Atwater-Rhode’s books, Demon In My View.  That post will be going live at midnight!

Friday, is not only Fangtastic Friday, but is also the day that the girls of Ermilia Publishing will be stopping by to tell us about their fabulous new series called Blind Sight. I am still reading their books, and I have to say, I absolutely ADORE Leocardo’s book.  I haven’t had a chance to read Anielia’s yet. It is a promising, new YA/fantasy series.  To find out more about them, check out Blind Sight on Goodreads.

Well, that’s this week in a nutshell.  Hope everyone has a great week!
